How to use your phone's back camera as a webcam and see yourself on your PC
Updated 3 October 2026 · 3 min read
Short answer
Connect the phone's camera to ByteMirror (Safari's camera page on iPhone, the ByteMirror app on Android), switch to the back camera, and add it to OBS Studio as a ByteMirror Phone source. You see yourself in the ByteMirror window and the OBS preview on your monitor, since the phone's own screen faces away.
The back camera is usually a phone's best one, but using it means the phone's screen faces away from you, so you can't see your framing.
With ByteMirror the picture shows on your PC instead: in the ByteMirror window and in the OBS preview.
Steps
- 1Connect the cameraiPhone: in ByteMirror click Add phone, choose iPhone camera and scan the code. Android: pair with the ByteMirror app and choose Camera.
- 2Switch to the back cameraOn the iPhone camera page or in the Android app.
- 3Add it to OBSAdd a ByteMirror Phone source and pick the phone's camera.
- 4Frame the shot on the monitorCheck framing and focus in the OBS preview. To fill a monitor with it, right-click the preview and choose Fullscreen Projector.
Cable or Wi-Fi
The iPhone camera works over Wi-Fi. An Android phone sends its camera over Wi-Fi with the app, or over a USB cable with USB debugging on Android 12 or later.
