Tutorials and app demos

Phone screen and facecam in one OBS scene.

Show an app on your phone with your face next to it, recorded in OBS Studio on Windows. The phone's screen comes in over USB or Wi-Fi as its own source, with its sound. No capture card, and no window capture of a mirroring app.

Setup

Three steps.

  1. 1Install ByteMirror on your Windows PC, with the OBS Studio option ticked.
  2. 2Connect the phone: an iPhone by cable or AirPlay, an Android phone through the ByteMirror app or USB debugging.
  3. 3In OBS Studio, add a ByteMirror Phone source for the phone's screen, then a camera source for your face.

The phone's screen

A source, not a window.

The ByteMirror Phone source gets the phone's own video at the phone's own resolution. There's no window border to crop, and moving or covering a window on your desktop doesn't change what OBS records.

  1. 1In OBS Studio, click + under Sources and choose ByteMirror Phone.
  2. 2Pick the phone and choose its screen.
  3. 3Resize and place it in the scene like any other source.

Turn on Do Not Disturb or a Focus before you record, so messages don't pop up in the video.

Facecam

Your webcam, or a second phone.

Add the webcam you already have as a Video Capture Device in OBS, next to the phone's screen. That works on the free plan. Or use a second phone's camera as the facecam: add another ByteMirror Phone source and choose its camera. Two phones at once needs Pro or Lifetime; the free plan shows one phone at a time.

Sound

The app's sound, and your voice.

The phone's sound is part of its source and shows up in the OBS audio mixer, so you can set its level apart from your microphone. On iPhone it comes over the cable or AirPlay. On Android it needs Android 10 or later with the ByteMirror app, or Android 11 or later over USB debugging.

Plans

What you get free, and with Pro.

The free plan has every way to connect and the OBS source. Pro and Lifetime raise the quality and remove the watermark.
