Desk setups
Your phone's rear camera, as your webcam.
The back of your phone usually has its best camera. ByteMirror sends it to OBS Studio on your Windows PC, and you watch yourself on the PC monitor while you record.
Setup
Three steps.
- 1In ByteMirror on the PC, click Add phone. On an iPhone, choose iPhone camera and scan the code; on Android, scan it with the ByteMirror app and choose Camera.
- 2Switch to the back camera, on the iPhone camera page or in the Android app.
- 3In OBS Studio, add a ByteMirror Phone source and choose the phone's camera.
See yourself
Frame the shot on your monitor.
With the back camera facing you, the phone's own screen faces away. The picture shows in the ByteMirror window and in the OBS preview on your PC, so you can check framing and focus on the big screen while you record.
OBS can also show the camera on a whole monitor: right-click the preview and choose Fullscreen Projector.
Connection
Wi-Fi, or USB on Android.
The iPhone camera page runs in Safari and sends the camera over Wi-Fi; the iPhone's cable carries its screen, not its camera. An Android phone sends its camera through the ByteMirror app over Wi-Fi, or, with USB debugging on Android 12 or later, over a USB cable.
The iPhone camera page needs iOS 16.4 or later. Keep Safari open with the screen on while you record.
Sound
The phone's mic, if you want it.
The Android app can send the mic with the camera, and the iPhone camera page has a mic switch. Or leave it off and use the microphone on your desk.
Video calls
In Zoom, Teams or Meet too.
Add the phone camera to OBS Studio as a ByteMirror Phone source, click Start Virtual Camera in OBS, then choose OBS Virtual Camera as the camera in your call app.

What you get free, and with Pro.
